An Ubly resident and former commercial lender at Northstar bank pleaded not guilty to charges of false pretenses and embezzlement, despite having allegedly taken over $100,000 over ten years.
Charles Allen Wright, age 58 of Ubly, appeared before Huron County Circuit Court Judge Gerald Prill on September 26, at 9:00 a.m. for a second arraignment, having been arraigned in the county’s district court back in August. Wright is being represented by Bad Axe attorney Michael Murawski.
It’s not known how long Wright had been with Northstar Bank when the alleged activity began, with the Michigan State Police finding that the alleged activity itself happened between 2012 and 2022.
If convicted, Wright faces up to 20 years in prison and/or a $50,000 fine for the embezzlement charge, and up to five years in prison for a charge of false pretenses. According to Huron County Prosecutor Tim Rutkowksi, the bank itself is seeking restitution as well.
Wright, who is free on bond, is due back before Judge Prill on October 16 at 10:00 a.m. for pre-trial proceedings.
