Marysville Public Schools investigating threats twice in one week

Marysville Public Schools launched their second investigation into threatening student comments this month, with parents informed in a letter home Thursday, November 2 and again this week.
District officials say that the comments involved in this week’s incident, wherein a student allegedly indicated intent to harm others at the school with a gun, were allegedly jokes in reference to the Nov. 2 incident, which saw a student post threats online. Marysville Police noted that the student in this week’s case had not made a specific threat towards the school or other students, with the student claiming they intended their statement to be funny, not threatening.
In addition to the second letter sent out after the district became aware of the alleged jokes late Tuesday night, officers with the Marysville Police Department were posted at the high school yesterday, Nov. 8. School officials noted that the letters sent home to district families were necessary to combat any potential misinformation or rumors from spreading. Police do plan to submit a report to the St. Clair County Prosecutor’s Office on the incidents for review.
This isn’t the first time Thumb-area schools have investigated threats this school year, with Tuscola County‘s Millington Public Schools reporting and investigating a student’s social media post in early October. The Millington investigation began after a student allegedly said in a group chat that they planned to go “shoot up the school,” posting a picture of a gun with the message. That threat was later found not credible.
