After an anonymous threat was reported to the school administration, officials at the Port Huron High School have canceled classes for the rest of today, November 15.
According to a letter sent home to parents this morning, high school principal Michael Palmer reported that Wednesday morning saw several concerning social media posts being shared with administration, which launched an immediate investigation. Despite a large police presence at the school, with the Port Huron Police and St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office being brought in to assist the school’s resource officers, officials want it to be clear that there is no active threat currently.
Out of an abundance of caution, with one of the posts considered a legitimate threat, classes were canceled around 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, with the school in a soft lock down until bus pickup at 10:30 a.m.
Principal Palmer asked parents in his letter home to “have a serious conversation with your children about their social media activity,” and to monitor their accounts. I
t is unclear if school will resume tomorrow.
