Sandusky city council looks to demolish two Morse Street properties for parking

With the asbestos report forwarded to their county counterparts and to District 98 representative Gregory Alexander for help securing funding, the Sandusky city council is looking to move forward on plans to demolish 24 and 36 South Morse Street for additional parking.

Sandusky City Manager Dave Faber reported this update during Monday’s meeting. With ongoing talk since 2019 at least, when the city bought the former dance studio at 24 S Morse Street, the city has been eyeing that particular block for further parking expansion.

With city parking and expansion briefly discussed last January, during talk of the 2023 budget, the real push for expansion came early last fall, with several business owners expressing to the council the need for more space during the first September meeting. Now that the asbestos report is complete and sent on to the Sanilac County Commissioners, the next step would be to secure state funding for the project. The commissioners will be setting up a meeting with the state to discuss what funding is available, while the council hopes that Representative Alexander can find further avenues to fund the demolition.

In addition to this news, Faber shared that absentee ballots will be sent out Tuesday, January 16, for the state’s presidential primary on February 27.
