Sanilac County’s Historic Village and Museum was one of 12 organizations awarded a grant from the Historical Society of Michigan (HSM).
The museum was awarded under the 2024 cycle of the Michigan History Alliance Grant, with the Historical Society of Michigan granting a total of $25,082 across the 12 recipients. The Michigan History Alliance (MHA) Grant Program is intended to provide funding for small- to medium-sized history organizations in Michigan through a straightforward application and reporting process. HSM invited its member organizations with annual operating budgets under $250,000 to submit proposals for a maximum grant amount of $2,500.
One of 93 applications, the Sanilac County Historic Village and Museum received a total of $2,242, which will fund the installation of a 100-amp electrical panel and upgrades to LED fixtures.
Two other historical projects in the Thumb area also received grants from the Historical Society of Michigan this year. St. Clair County’s Harsens Island St. Clair Flats Historical Society was granted $1,900 in funding to purchase a new outdoor storage shed, and Huron County’s Friends of the Port Hope Railroad Depot received $1,900 to help fund restoration of the historic Pere Marquette Railroad depot’s cargo area and install interpretive exhibits.
