Though he has credit for less than a year served, a Filion man was sentenced yesterday to a maximum of 15 years for acts committed against a minor.
40-year-old Raymond Peyerk of Filion was sentenced Monday, March 4 to eight to 15 years in prison, having been convicted in January on one count of Criminal Sexual Conduct (CSC) in the 3rd Degree and 10 counts of CSC in the 4th Degree. CSC 3rd is a felony with a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.
Huron County Prosecutor Tim Rutkowski praised the bravery of the teenage victim, who testified against her abuser during a two-day trial earlier this year, saying that she showed “great strength” by reporting the crime to a trusted adult so quickly.
Peyerk was initially only charged with two counts of fourth degree CSC before Huron County District Court Judge David Herrington heard evidence at Peyerk’s preliminary examination, with the two charges quickly becoming ten.
In addition to his prison time, Peyerk must register with the state’s Sex Offender Registry.
