Several people are injured and one woman is dead following a two-vehicle crash yesterday afternoon in Moore Township.

Sanilac Central Dispatch received a call from an off-duty Sanilac County Sheriff’s Sergeant shortly after 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, reporting a two-vehicle crash that had just occurred on M-46 near Isles Road in Moore Township. With the sergeant also reporting multiple injuries, sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the scene with Moore Township Fire, Sanilac EMS, Eastern Huron EMS, Marlette EMS and the Michigan State Police Caro Post.

Initial investigation found that a 2019 GMC Terrain was being driven east on M-46 by a 31-year-old Snover woman, when she attempted to pass another vehicle. Doing so, she pulled into the path of a westbound 2019 Buick Enclave being driven by a 15-year-old boy. The boy, who was driving legally and under the supervision of his 49-year-old mother, attempted to escape being struck head on, exiting the roadway to the right shoulder to do so. However, the Snover woman still struck the Columbus teen’s vehicle head on at the shoulder of M-46.

The Snover woman was treated at the scene by Sanilac EMS before transport to McLaren Lapeer Region Hospital.

The occupants of the Buick Enclave, which included the teen driver’s 11-year-old brother and 78-year-old grandmother, were treated on scene by Sanilac EMS, Marlette EMS and Eastern Huron Ambulance Service. They were all initially transported to McKenzie Hospital, with it reported that the 78-year-old grandmother later died due to her injuries. The 11-year-old boy was transferred to Flint Hurley Medical Center.

All occupants of both vehicles involved were wearing their seat belts. This crash remains under investigation and no names will be released at this time.
