With the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, Michigan’s Department of Transportation will be suspending work and lifting traffic restrictions wherever possible to help with holiday travel.
Though that means that 85 of an ongoing 154 projects will be paused beginning at 3:00 p.m. tomorrow, May 24 and resumed on Tuesday, May 28, at 6:00 a.m., there will be some work zones active or lane restrictions still in place around the Thumb.
For instance, the M-46 project will remain in place, which sees M-46 closed from Dawson Street to Campbell Road in Sandusky. Traffic is detoured via Dawson Street, Argyle Street, North Elk Street, M-19, Miller Road, and Campbell Road, with one lane of westbound M-46 open through the work zone for local access.
In addition to the work in Sanilac County, M-142 in Huron County is closed in Bad Axe from M-53 to M-19. Traffic is detoured via M-53, Learman Road, and Carpenter Road, with one lane of eastbound M-142 open through the work zone for local access.
Though other road projects in the Thumb will be temporarily suspended for the holiday, MDOT wishes to remind drivers that equipment and certain configurations may remain in place, such as shoulder closures or temporary shifts, and urges drivers to stay buckled, stay alert and stay safe while driving this holiday.
