With the after effects of tropical storm Beryl moving through the Ohio Valley and Northeast United States, Michigan’s Thumb is receiving several warnings from the National Weather Service.
With the first announcement arriving just after 3:30 a.m. this morning, the National Weather Service is warning Huron, Lapeer, St. Clair, Sanilac, and Tuscola counties of a flood watch, with ten other counties in the Bay or Southeast regions of the state warned as well, with excessive rain expected throughout the evening and into tonight. The agency urges residents to monitor forecasts and be alert and ready to take action if a flood develops.
In addition to local rivers and other low-lying areas receiving several inches of rain, the weather service is warning those in Huron, Sanilac and St. Clair counties to be wary if they venture onto the water, with elevated wave heights creating hazardous swimming conditions in Lake Huron.
Despite the wild weather today, the National Weather Service expects it to calm by tomorrow, with only a 30% chance of showers before the sun comes out Thursday.
