19-year-old Imlay City man drowns Saturday at Port Huron State Game Area

An Imlay City man tragically drowned Saturday night while swimming with friends in St. Clair County.

Michigan State Police were called to the Port Huron State Game Area around 6:00 p.m. on September 21, due to a report of a drowning near Grant Township’s Hewitt’s Pit.

Investigation found that the 19-year-old had been swimming with two friends when he began to struggle, going under the water and prompting his friends to come to his aid and call 911.

The man was later confirmed dead by the St. Clair County Dive Team, who found his body while assisting state police. Troopers were also assisted by the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, Department of Natural Resources, Grant Township Fire Department, Kenockee Township Fire Department & Tri-Hospital EMS.
