After visiting 8 elementary and middle schools in October and reviewing several hundred creative name suggestions from local Port Huron students, Officer Caleb Paul has chosen Axel as the winning name for his new K9 partner.

A big congratulations to the four winning students who submitted the name “Axel” – Ben, Greyson, Matthew, and Syer!  Officers made special visits Thursday, October 14, to the students’ schools to surprise them with a framed copy of their name submission, a photo with Axel, and a pizza party for their entire class.

The Port Huron Police Department wants to extend their heartfelt thanks to all the students and teachers who participated in this fun project, and to the schools and administrators for their tremendous support in making this happen.

Axel is a 14-month-old German Shepherd from the Slovak Republic, who joined the department in October with his handler, Officer Paul.
