Port Huron Police are investigating two incidents, including a homicide, that occurred shortly after midnight Tuesday morning.
Port Huron Police Officers responded to the 3000 block of Vanness Street shortly before 12:15 a.m. on January 28 for a reported fire. Upon arrival, officers observed a vehicle fully engulfed in flames just off the roadway. The Port Huron Fire Department also responded to extinguish the blaze.
Shortly after, around 12:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 2500 block of Vanness Street due to a report that someone had been shot. Upon arrival, officers found a 35-year-old man, killed from what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds.
The Port Huron Major Crimes Unit and Detective Bureau immediately responded and are actively investigating both incidents. Preliminary investigations suggest that the vehicle fire may have been the result of arson. Investigators are working to determine if the vehicle fire and the homicide are connected. The Michigan State Police Crime Lab is assisting with the investigation and processing evidence from both crime scenes.
