The Port Huron branch of the NAACP released a statement over the weekend after residents expressed concern over the discovery of racist hate symbols on display at a residence in Sanilac County’s Lexington Township.
The imagery, which includes swastikas and the SS lightning bolts, was also reported found under the bridge over the Black River in Sanilac County.
In their statement, the NAACP expressed sadness about the discovery, but noted that “the actions of a few do not represent the values of many” and urged Sanilac County residents to take action and “ensure that this kind of hatred and division does not take root or grow in your town.”
In addition to calling all residents, community leaders and organizations to stand united against hate and racism, the NAACP demanded accountability and “a future where such hatred is not tolerated in our communities.”
