In addition to approving the lot split for the incoming county animal control building, the Sandusky City Council was informed at Monday night’s meeting that Police Chief Brett Lester plans to retire effective September 1, 2025.
Lester began his work with the city in 1998, becoming the police chief of Sandusky in 2010. While it is unclear what Lester’s plans are for retirement, the city council plans to formally accept the retirement at their next meeting on May 5.
Also at Monday night’s meeting, the council awarded the bid for cemetery mowing work to MTH Landscaping.
The council also approved the lot split for 103 South Campbell Road in Sandusky, with the county planning to construct a 4,600 sq ft building and its driveway for the county’s Animal Control division. In addition to the council’s approval for the lot split, the county will need the city assessor’s approval as well. The county and Bender Builders, who won the project bid, hope to complete the project by the end of the year.
