BALTIMORE (AP) – There will be no Triple Crown winner in thoroughbred racing this year. Exaggerator has won the Preakness under sloppy track conditions at Pimlico, ending Nyquist’s bid to become horse racing’s second Triple Crown winner in two years. Exaggerator took charge at the 3/16th pole with jockey Kent Desormeaux on board and outlasted a tiring Nyquist down the stretch. It’s also a victory for trainer Keith Desormeaux after his brother rode Exaggerator to a second-place finish at the Kentucky Derby two weeks ago. Nyquist had been unbeaten in eight starts and was the overwhelming favorite heading into the starting gate. Cherry Wine also passed Nyquist down the stretch to finish second, 3 1/2 lengths back. Nyquist was third after going off as the 3-5 favorite. The day got off to a somber start when two horses died and a jockey broke his collarbone early in the undercard.
