North Huron Schools “Farm to Fork” event

(HURON COUNTY) — North Huron School recently hosted their first “Farm to Fork” event this week. Broilers were purchased in the fall and were raised by 100 agriscience students to seven weeks old. North Huron students took care of the chickens daily and recorded weights every week. Some of the birds were entered in the Michigan FFA Broiler Contest. 100 of the birds were processed at a USDA facility and stored in the kitchen freezer until recently. Chef Mark Polega prepared the chicken, which was served Thursday at North Huron School. Over 300 students and 46 staff members were able to learn how meat was produced and had a part in learning how they were raised while enjoying an excellent meal.
