(AREA) — This Saturday and Sunday, June 11 and 12 is free fishing weekend in Michigan. Residents and nonresidents alike may fish without a license, but all other fishing regulations still apply. The annual summer event is in its 31st year to promote the state’s world-class fishing opportunities. Several organized events are scheduled throughout the state. Locally, a fishing contest is planned in Croswell at Riverbend Park Saturday from 9 a.m.-Noon. There will be cash prizes for the five longest fish and the contest is open to all ages. The cost to join is $20. Register by calling 810-679-3904. In Lapeer County, the Metamora-Hadley Family Fishing Derby is Saturday from 8:30-11:30 a.m. at the Metamora-Hadley Recreation Area on Lake Minnawanna.
