Dairy Farmers of America announce expansion of Cass City plant

(CASS CITY) — Dairy Farmers of America has announced plans to expand its Cass City facility. The plant was constructed in 2013 and processes up to 3 million pounds of milk into cream, condensed whole milk, and condensed skim milk brought in by local producers. The expansion of the 33,000-square-foot plant is consistent with Dairy Farmers of America’s strategic plan to create supply chain efficiencies and increase commercial investments to bring increased value to the Cooperative’s farmers-owners. Cooperative leaders continue to finalize details of the expansion in Cass City and are working closely with state and local agencies on incentives. According to DFA’s Chief Financial officer Greg Wickham, the plant’s location makes it ideal to provide both domestic and global customers with safe, high-quality diary ingredients. Dairy Farmers of America are also exploring joint ownership and operation of a major cheese processing plant in Michigan.
