Do you have a passion for nature, enjoy the outdoors, and want to give back to your community? Then you might enjoy being part of the Walking Path Volunteer Work Crew at the Museum. If there’s one thing we learned in 2020, it’s that we all need more opportunities for outdoor activities. Walking paths provide many benefits to communities, such as increasing opportunities for a healthy, active lifestyle, strengthening community bonds, increasing resident property values, and attracting additional tourists, while also increasing access to nature and the outdoors.
This project will demand a lot of volunteer labor, including gardeners, folks that are good with a hammer and nails, people to move and spread mulch, trim trees, pull weeds, and lay brick paths, plus some creative types to help set up the fairy garden village and hang birdhouses. There is also a need for people with carpentry, landscape, and patio building skills to help oversee groups of volunteers. Your skills and efforts are needed and will be very much appreciated. There is also a need for volunteers to bake cookies for the hungry army of volunteers!! Baked goods can be dropped off at the Museum Tuesday-Friday from noon-3 pm.
Volunteers will meet at the Museum on Saturday’s April 10th – May 22nd from 10 am – 3 pm. Volunteers are encouraged to participate for the day or any portion of the day, to dress for the weather, including boots if it has been wet, and to bring work gloves, gardening tools, rakes, shovels, etc., and a bag lunch. the Museum will provide coffee, bottled water and dessert.
SCHS administrator, Dawn Malek says “Join us! if you can see yourself using our walking path for exercise, to walk your dog, or to get the grandkids out and into nature, please consider lending a hand. We promise you a rewarding community service experience working with other fun and energetic people. Come feel the rewards of what a group can accomplish with just a half day’s work!” In order to help with planning, volunteers are asked to RSVP to schsshirley@gmail.com if possible! But volunteers should also feel free to drop by at any time.
